Back in 2017 when this video was made you could get .270 & 30.06, but at the end of 2021 beginning of 2022, they are non-existent. Yet .308 is plentiful.

I shoot an X-Bolt 7mm-08 with a 120 gr. Barnes TTSX for moose, black bear and deer. Devastating round with incredible terminal performance. Two holes every time. I’ve never recovered a single bullet in over 10 years.

This video today would be just so much B S. Can’t find almost no ammunition now. ??

  9. Christopher Sullivan on January 27, 2023 at 4:19 am

Yeah…. kinda surprised 308 was left out but you talk 30-06 it makes sense

  10. Jace DeGough on January 27, 2023 at 4:26 am

Good list. Although I would have eliminated the 270 and 30-06 (they’re so close anyway) in favor of the 7mm rem mag. The Rem mag will do everything and more than those two calibers with roughly equivalent recoil of the 30-06 and equally prevalent ammo availability.

He forgot to mention the 308

Anyone here have any experience with a 6.5mm Creedmore for deer?

    *cries in .300 Savage*

  15. Damon Diehl on January 27, 2023 at 4:31 am

A muzzle brake does wonders for taming those .30 caliber magnums. I have a pair of Savage bolt actions with ported barrels, one in .30-06 and the other in .338 Win Mag, and they are nothing to shoot. The .338 gives you a big push, but not a kick like you would expect. They do seem louder.
When I was a kid, 40 years ago, conventional wisdom said you wanted a .243 for antelope, a .270 if you hunted out west, and a .30-06 for basically everything. One of my uncles was a rebel and shot a .25-06. Lots of people shot .30-30s, but most shot .30-06s. I remember my dad not having a very high opinion of .308s. I personally have hunted with a .30-06 since I was 12. But if I ever go for moose or a grizzly, I’m taking the .338.

  16. TC MDK on January 27, 2023 at 4:32 am

You missed 308 winchester, and 300 win mag.

  17. Supersaintsfan9999 on January 27, 2023 at 4:32 am

Screw all that; one cartridge to rule them all. 300 win mag clean enough kills on medium game and fantastic for larger game such as elk and moose

.308 Win?, 7mm Rem Mag?, .300 Win Mag??

  20. Alexander Brittain on January 27, 2023 at 4:36 am

@2:52 are we gonna act like that’s a little recoil? It moves that grown man BACK.

    300 win. Mag

How do you say 243 and not mention the 6.5 creedmoor?

  24. LiamSh 28 on January 27, 2023 at 4:42 am

    I shoot a 30.6.

  25. Kaity M on January 27, 2023 at 4:43 am

Often carry a .308 afield. The .30-06 was great when I was younger, but after years, I became less tolerant of being kicked in the shoulder. Always wondered about the .270, but have missed it after my father gifted his most talented daughter a .243. Might have to check it out.

  26. Jimmy Plummer on January 27, 2023 at 4:44 am

I agree with the 308 comment. You can use the 7.62X51. He made several uninformed comments.

  27. Bob Parvin on January 27, 2023 at 4:44 am

My favorite regular non-Magnum is the 30/06. My favorite Magnum round is the 300 Winchester. For the meanest, biggest, I would always approve of the 458 Lott firing 458 win. Mag 500 gr. Solids,

  28. Acta non verba on January 27, 2023 at 4:45 am

All I’m going to use for hunting is my 8mm Mauser .308, 300 win mag and 45-70

  29. Jack trout on January 27, 2023 at 4:46 am

    270. Then chamber for 270 ai and a set of dies. Factory ammo plus an improvement for hand loads. Projectiles are plenty and you can form brass from 06 cases.
For short action 6.5 creedmoor it’s generally available great performance.
Magnum rifle 300 mag over 7mm mag if you own the above mentioned cartridges already. Otherwise flip a coin.
Keep in mind there is not a whole lot new under the sun older cartridges still get the job done.

  31. Shane Burham on January 27, 2023 at 4:48 am

300 win mag is my long range shooter when I’m hunting in a field but my perfer gun is my Marlin 1895 45-70. 250 grain Hornady leverevolution does wonders in the thick timbers in the NE PA

  32. Dave 1493 on January 27, 2023 at 4:49 am

    Good luck finding 270 ammo

  33. Kirk Smith on January 27, 2023 at 4:51 am

Does no one use a .303 anymore?

  34. Warren Green on January 27, 2023 at 4:51 am

I would of took the 243 out and put the 308 in its place

  35. Rooster Boy on January 27, 2023 at 4:52 am

The lever action shotgun from red dead 👌🏼

  36. Michigan Woodsman on January 27, 2023 at 4:52 am

As a bear and deer guide I will say this guy actually has his head out of his butt. Good video. Can’t stand Steve but this guy was good

  37. Roy White on January 27, 2023 at 4:56 am

With technology and today’s powder, the 308 is capable of competing with 30-06, and it does it with less powder. 30-06 will have a little more velocity, but at the cost of more powder. No disrespect for the 30-06. It’s earned it’s place. But don’t say the 308 isn’t enough. Just use the right powders and the right barrel length and it’s very close. The reloaders out there know.

  38. Hi-TechGaming23 on January 27, 2023 at 4:57 am

    6.5 isn’t just a lady’s round 😭

  39. steven caldwell on January 27, 2023 at 4:58 am

I have a Winchester model 70 30-06. Hogs to bear and everything in between!

  40. soundsgood on January 27, 2023 at 4:58 am

308 fanboys be triggered that it’s not for big game. Lol.

  41. Troy Drennen on January 27, 2023 at 4:59 am

Great video I could not agree more owning some of the calipers they’re your favorite are also mine

  42. Jack John on January 27, 2023 at 5:03 am

    What about .308?

  43. Nate Martin on January 27, 2023 at 5:03 am

Damn ive been using the 7mm rem mag all my life and kinda disappointed it wasnt on the list

  44. Ryan Wilson on January 27, 2023 at 5:04 am

For me I have a 30-06 pre 64 model 70 and have used it to take multiple deer, too many hogs to count, a bull and cow elk, and my dad took it to Africa and shot all of his plains game animals with 1 shot and even took a 1700lbs eland through both shoulders. His PH Jericho had said that there is a reason 30-06 is most popular is because you can take anything in the world with it and not need to shoot a big bore until you reach the dangerous 7

  45. Ingvar Kristjansson on January 27, 2023 at 5:06 am

    All great choices

  46. Quacker Smacker Outdoors on January 27, 2023 at 5:06 am

My favorite is 300 win mag

  47. Zj93 on January 27, 2023 at 5:07 am

Why all the .308 fan boys? 30-06 is an all around better round. Better trajectory with a farther effective range.

  48. Anton Gr on January 27, 2023 at 5:09 am

300 win mag is all you need

  49. milesff7 on January 27, 2023 at 5:10 am

When it comes to shooting firearms over 30 caliber, take a breathe, tell yourself “ don’t be a p_§§y”, and focus on the shot.

I wonder why 6.5 creedmoor was mentioned in the vid I though for sure it would be
