NOCTURNAL CORN PILES? TRY THESE TIPS TO HELP!
NOCTURNAL CORN PILES? TRY THESE TIPS TO HELP. Corn piles and other deer baiting sites can quickly become nocturnal baiting sites if pressured to much. Deer React to human pressure. They still need to feed several times a day. Some tips on corn piles is to spread them out instead of dumping them in a pile. This Makes them a little bit more natural.

I keep a feeder filled year round, every 2 weeks. I also keep a ground blind in place year round. I do have to replace it every couple years. I have this set up tight to bedding area. Have been doing this for 3 years. Corn in the fall, corn protein mix post season, big tine late spring, and summer. See deer all day, bucks usually mid day. Been working for me, in a very low pressure area.
Brother your spot on.. They had my number more than once👍
Hey buddy get video
Great info! Thanks for sharing it!!!
Great tips Dave! I have a question for you would spreading the corn in a field work ? Where I hunt down here in SE Alabama land owner had it clear cut about 4 years ago and left about a 4 acre field and I wasn’t able to plant it this past fall but also what would you recommend planning in the field !
Can’t hunt on a Sunday?!?! Those Bible thumpers gone crazy 🤣
I always had better luck spreading it out also . In piles you loose a lot to mold . Another trick i have used ,is scattering corn on both sides of a shooting lane in the weeds , they will move from side to side giving you good shot opportunities. When the step back in the shooting lane they always seem to pause for a couple seconds before going to the other side.
This was interesting – just subbed
It sucks that I can’t bait in Wisconsin ☹️☹️
Wow I’m surprised that you can’t hunt on Sundays
Do you worry about getting your scent on the corn by grabbing handfuls and throwing it out? I’m always paranoid about coming in contact with the corn.
Don’t want to kill Bambi I just want thrm to come closer to house to watch them i was going to go get a salt block but now im not so sure any suggestions
The law in Mississippi is 100 yes away from your stand, only in spin cast or one off the ground, no piles. Piles promote CWD
This very thing has happened to me. They are in fact showing up at 5:30 in the morning and then at 8:30 at night. So I’m gonna take this advice and try these different methods.
Do they eat pine cones
This makes much more sense now. Thanks for the tip! Know wonder all of the deer are nocturnal all of a sudden. They’re pressured and tracked my patterns. I was out 6:30am one morning until 12pm. Didnt see a single deer. Got down my tree stand and checked the trail cam….huge buck was already out feeding at 5:30am. They start tracking your patterns if you pressure hunt too much.
Can 🦌 be cold
Hi friend, So I think you said you used to use corn, but you no longer use it… Just curious what you use now. Thanks
Deer ain’t that smart man. Lol They don’t have the ability to reason like we do. Hunted my whole life. No animals have reasoning like we do.
Thanks a lot brother your videos are always so helpful I spread my corn out like you said I throw it all over I’ve harvested 2 with a bow so far this year and Muzzleloader season comes in Saturday here in North Carolina supposed to be 27 degrees that morning can’t wait
Never understood while hunters dump corn in a pile. Its just going to get wet and mold. I use a spreader mounted on an atv. Fill it up and let her rip. Then come back and hunt the spot about 3-5 days later.
Funny that u made this bc I had deer on my cam this week around 1pm and that’s the only time they were on there
I’m sorry but to suggest that deer are able to apply your human logic to ANY situation is preposterous. Deer, like all wild animals are driven by instinct and deal with all stimuli immediately and go back to normal once the stimuli is gone. They’re incapable of "putting 2 and 2 together" as you put it. Although deer can’t be domesticated they can be tame. You can condition them to things such as feeding times. THIS is why they feed your corn piles at night, because they know it’s there in abundance. Not because they "have seen their buddy get killed" over the corn. 😒
Bama just last season i believe started allowing baiting and man… our deer hunting seems fucked deer rarely come out in the day time now…🤦🏻♂️
Another great video.
Ok this is word. Deer come to bait piles in the dark because they can. Start out dumping your corn out in abundance, for two or three weeks. As the season progresses put out less and less. Even skip a day. Then back to a good amount then again less and less. Deer think other deer are beating them to the bait pile and will start to come to it earlier and earlier. This works for me every year
there is two reasons guys use corn to draw deer too lazy to put in the effort or lack of hunting skills I know Ive done it myself,I also not sure about trail cameras they always show the deer coming long after shooting hours I bet if we knew the the truth alot of deer are killed by guys after legal hours and over corn there’s always been outlaws around
Pretty much everything you said are the things we do. Never pour it in a mound scatter it out make multiple sites to keep the pressure off of one spot. We have pretty good success like that. We also brush in ground blinds instead of getting to trees because they always tend to look up in trees when approaching but they get used to that brushed in ground blind and with in a week they don’t even look at it anymore. What do you thank about using ears of corn instead? I’ve never tried it
Check out this video on how to attract deer with food plots!!! https://youtu.be/UWb3WK1VgDw
What’s your opinion on feeders? Specifically small gravity feeders connected to the tree? I hunt a very small parcel, less than 8 acres. Had lots of good pictures over my salt block but after putting out corn feeder for 1 week I didnt have any pics of deer whatsoever.
I spread my Big-n-J over a 10 to 12 feet area then I NEVER HUNT THE BAIT, I always set up on th rare occasions I actually hunt the baited area a minimum of 60 to 80 yrds away from the area on the trails leading to it. They aren’t near as aware as they are when people set up 20 yrds from the bait, and I catch’em OFF GUARD everytime!
The deer must attend church on Sunday’s. 🤷🏼♂️
Yes Deer smell human activity around bait and it makes them skittish. But the real reason is deer are nocturnal by nature. When food is artificially abundant ( like bait) they don’t have to search for enough food. Allow other to feed enough while it’s dark , reducing the need to move during daylight hours.
Thanks for the info Dave this is so true! I hunted for the first time this season and dumped corn and only time deer showed were late night early morning hours seen them on the trail camera. I never had a chance to harvest a deer and now I see why.
Don’t pile it?! Baiting is stupid.
Even using corn, a great way to combat this is during the rut is by hanging a scent wick near the bait, and using a drag line to a remote location. Bucks will check the area near bait sites during the rut, almost like a scrape, for hot doe scent, and follow the trail looking for the gal that left it.
Hey Dave r u in KY? I’ve tried to meet up and get a hunt in together?
Shoot a raven r10 and they can’t get away
this is hilarious
