The lab is truly one of the best bird dogs known to man. We had 3 as kids, and they were amazing hunting dogs. They literally never failed to do what bird dogs should do. Even in the tallest buffle grass, I can’t remember a single bird that was lost.

I’ll put my Standard Poodle against any breed for the ability to do both chores really well. There may be some better water dogs and there may be some better bird dogs but when you need a dog to do both the Standard Poodle is overlooked.
