The Lagotto Romagnolo (Gundog)
The Lagotto Romagnolo (Gundog)
This video shows a group of UK based Lagotto’s demonstrating their traditional work as gundogs. The Lagotto Romagnolo is a breed of dog that comes from the Romagna sub-region of Italy. The name means “lake dog from Armagnac,” coming from the Italian word “lago”, lake. Its traditional function is a gundog, and specifically a water retriever. Lagotto are perfect swimmers being an exceptionally hardy little dog able to work long hours immersed in icy water. He is aided by webbing between his toes and a double coat which covers his entire body. Even the inside flaps of his ears are covered in thick hair to prevent water entering his inner ear when diving after duck.

Lake dog from the Romagna, please. Armagnac is a brandy from France.
Great DVD of a great little Gundog. Shame its not longer. These dogs just love to work.
Great little dog. Thanks for putting this video up. I have watched Lagottos work on truffles in North Carolina. I understand they are great family dogs as well.
Hey Nick, I’m thinking about getting one. How would you rate this breed against, say, a lab, when it comes to retrieving birds?
